Drawing from the farmland vernacular of the Swannanoa Valley, this design concept of “connected isolation” features a central living pavilion and porches as part of the main level living, with two bedrooms and family room below, and separate studio/guest wing that includes a ground level “trail entry” for the cross country enthusiasts.

Traditional but creative family living defines the main wing with open kitchen, dining, laundry/service spaces and master bedroom with private balcony. This wing follows the natural grade to lower level kids bedrooms and family/den. The central pavilion opens fully to the shed porch and dramatic views of the Black Mountains beyond. A connecting entry porch and shed/modern loggia allows access between the main body of the home and guest/studio.

The Sovereign Oak is the centering component of the site design, embraced by all of the connected spaces, porches, and balconies. The south wing roofline addresses the future solar component of the system, while the passive design enjoys full access to the four seasons

of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
